María Serna has a broad experience in transactional and regulatory energy matters, from the private and public sector. She has advised international energy companies in their compliance and advocacy affairs before energy regulators. María served as director of the National Hydrocarbons Commission's bidding department for the award of exploration and extraction contracts during the first three calls of Round 1, as well as serving as a legal counsel for the Legal Affairs of ASEA, participating in the drafting of regulation. Her experience in the private sector includes being an associate in top-tier energy and finance law firms. Abroad, María advised an international energy company for their Africa and Latin America policy and public affairs.
María Serna holds a Masters' degree in Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Law, from the University of Houston; and a Bachelor of Laws from Escuela Libre de Derecho.
